Ash is a warm-neutral palette — Gruvbox hues cooled and desaturated toward a grey / ash look: bone text on soot panels, ember accents (light variant: ink on ash-paper). It is the same 16-colour palette used by the Ash themes for TriliumNext and by the AshPalette in the HAIYUKI project.

The theme set is derived from the excellent Harbor / Harbor Dark Omarchy themes (MIT, © HANCORE): every config file was recolored from the Harbor palette to Ash.

Accents: ember, gold, blood, rot, moss, steel, violet, rust (see tools/recolor.py for the exact terminal 16-colour mapping). Regenerate the swatch images above with python3 tools/make_palette_images.py ..

Install (local)

Copy or symlink the variant folders into the user themes directory — the folder name is what appears in the theme menu:

Note: Omarchy distinguishes hand-written themes from installed ones by the presence of a .git directory inside the theme folder. When installing this repo via omarchy-theme-install, terminal configs (alacritty/foot/ghostty/ kitty) and vscode.json would be dropped by the filter — so use the copy/symlink method above for your own machine.

Backgrounds

No wallpapers are shipped (Harbor's don't match the palette). Drop images into ~/.config/omarchy/themes/ash-dark/backgrounds/ and cycle with Super+Ctrl+Space, or keep them in ~/.config/omarchy/backgrounds/ash-dark/.

Generating Ash wallpapers from your own photos

tools/ash-wallpaper.sh (ImageMagick) turns any color photo into an Ash wallpaper: the image is reduced to Ash-tinted greys, while warm ember/gold highlights (sunset, fire, lights, skin tones) are selectively preserved.

Regenerating from the palette

The files in ash-light/ and ash-dark/ are generated from tools/reference/ (the Harbor text files) by tools/recolor.py, which applies an explicit Harbor→Ash color map plus a nearest-color fallback and renames the branding. If the Ash palette changes (e.g. new Trilium CSS), update the maps in tools/recolor.py and run:

python3 tools/recolor.py .
